No one will ever understand your sacrifice…
Whether it is time; money; dreams deferred. It makes no difference whether you raised children on your own, cashed out your retirement to invest in another’s dream, gave your all to a love, or to an unwinnable war. The reason makes no difference. No one else will understand the depth of your sacrifice in any case. Make sure you are genuinely at peace with it; preferably before you give.

Just L Poetry 
This is essential advice. I think people should live their own dreams rather than the dreams of other people. It must be understood that anything the individual does will rarely be appreciated by others, so it is best to do the things that the individual loves, so that the reward is intrinsic rather than extrinsic.
