Your brilliance snags me

Your brilliance snags me but for only a moment. A passing star on a journey which I cannot abide. Here I stand in awe as you fade from my sight only to ponder the journey that lies ahead for those who catch a glimpse of your path…

~Adam (A little note for Just L from the best martini mixologist in Capitola, CA, July 2016)

“Love Letters” are letters to or from Just L periodically pulled from the vault.

Tinker Sailor…

He cruised in on a forty foot sailboat
Sun kissed, salty and sweet
Yet his excitement was hard to hide
For behind his serene smile and sparkly eyes
His heart raced like a Geiger counter inside
A wandering romantic, he never skipped a beat

Author’s Note: Roaming across the map, he landed next to me in a bar in Capitola. Sitting on the stool to his right I could take his pulse without ever touching him. Before now I had never been close enough to experience a mechanical aortic valve ticking… I bet he loses at poker every time!

“You’ll find we offer you much more than just a place to study…”

The brochure read.
“Never woke up in a dorm bed,”
Thought bubble over her head.
“I’ve got to meet for a run,” he said.
It was 22 years since she graduated;
So, she skipped the walk of shame.
Blame it on Rio.

You Can Do Better

“You can do better.”
I’m always confused by this
Who are you to say what’s right for me
Even if it’s wrong

~Just L (June 19, 2016)

Author’s Note: I don’t need socially ideal to prove my worth. I define what’s best for me by how much we love one another, not a ranking of smarter, richer, or more charming. Love and companionship does not correlate with how attractive or successful someone is, unless you are shallow. And no amount of good looks can take the place of respect, or that magic sparkle between two people.
